The best places in France for families by the sea – Part 5: Port Grimaud

The-most-beautiful-seaside-areas-in-FranceWelcome to Part 5, the penultimate post in our series about places in the South of France for families by the sea. If you missed our posts on Antibes, Cimiez in Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer or Gruissan click here.

We’re heading to the Var department next…

5. Port Grimaud

Known as the ‘Venice of Provence’, Grimaud is a charming village in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in southeastern France.  The village was inspired by Venice with channels of water and traditional, Provençal-style houses with a boat mooring post at the end of each garden. It is located on the French Riviera and is seven kilometres west of Saint Tropez.  The town is largely traffic-free, making it the perfect place for children to explore safely.   There is also ample opportunity to try your hand at water sports such as water-skiing, snorkelling and scuba diving via its beautiful sandy beach.

From Port Grimaud there is a regular boat service to St. Tropez – a very worthwhile trip to see the famous harbour, its ancient streets and alleyways along with its chic restaurants and cafés.  A delightful location for all the family!

And here’s a magical 4 bed villa right on the waterfront – who can resist those charming blue shutters.
