The best places in France for families by the sea – Part 4: Gruissan

The-most-beautiful-seaside-areas-in-FranceWelcome to Part 4 in our series of posts about places in the South of France for families by the sea. If you missed our posts on Antibes,Cimiez in Nice or Villefranche-sur-Mer click here.

In this post we are moving further west, leaving the French Riviera behind and heading to the Narbonne region

4. Gruissan

Gruissan is a lovely little medieval seaside village in the heart of the Regional National Park of Narbonne, just 50 miles west of Montpellier’s airport, or 40 minutes from Carcassone’s. Equally, you can make an adventure of your journey (show me a child that doesn’t love a train!) and take the TGV direct from Paris to Narbonne in just 4hr30m. This whole area is somewhat of a secret that the French have kept to themselves! Despite the tourist hotspot of Carcassone being a mere 40 minutes away, 80% of summer visitors to the area are French.  As well as being a quaint and beautiful French village, it has plenty to offer including two marinas; a Blue Flag listed bathing resort and huge sandy beaches.  Kids will love to climb to the top of the Barbarousse (Redbeard’s) Tower and scream their way around Pirat’Parc, a rollercoaster-filled theme park   It is also famous for its water sports and summer festivals and will keep you entertained from dawn till dusk.

Just 6 mins from Narbonne is this very modern 4 bed villa with pool
