Our Top Family-Friendly Ski Resorts in France – Part 2: Val D’Isère

Welcome to Part 2 in our series of posts about our Top Ski Resorts for families in France.  If you missed our first post on Avoriaz you can have a read here

Our second pick of favourite ski resorts in France is Val d’Isère.  Val d’Isère is a popular ski resort in the French Alps near the Italian border.  With 5 different ski areas, there is a slope suitable for every level of skier.  There is a large number of ski schools in the area making it a great place to learn or improve your skiing.  There are lots of options for childcare that will let you try some of the more challenging slopes while your children are being well taken care of.

There is also plenty to do if you want a break from skiing.  There is a sledging area which is open daily, tobogganing, a large Centre Aquasportif with swimming and ice skating, a cinema and other sporting activities.

Easily reached by air via Geneva (3.5 hours transfer) and Lyon airport (3 hours transfer), it is a great choice for families. The nearest train station for Val d’Isère is at Bourg St Maurice and it takes around another 45 minutes by road to get to Val d’Isère. If you’re travelling from the UK, the Eurostar leaves from London or Kent and takes you into Paris, where you can pick up a connecting TGV train to Bourg St Maurice.

This area has a particularly long season (9 months) due to the area’s exceptional snow coverage, giving you ample time to indulge your love of the slopes.  Neighbouring Tignes is also well worth a look!

For avid skiers, we are sure you will want to visit a few different resorts.  But once you fall in love with an area, you may wish to look at buying property there so you can make the most of the ski season each year, and we would love to help you with that.  Our highly trained team has an intimate knowledge of the property buying and French mortgages.
