Following on from our last series of posts on the best places in France for families by the sea, we are now moving away from the sea and on to the slopes. Summer may be just around the corner, but it is the perfect time to get ahead of the game and start thinking about the ski season. Sharing your love of the slopes with your family can be magical, whether this is your child’s first experience of snow, or you have older children looking for a bit more independence. With France being one of Europe’s top skiing destinations, there are some fantastic options in terms of family-friendly resorts that will delight young and old.
And once you’ve tried it out with a holiday, have a look at the beautiful family-sized properties available to purchase from a selection of our estate agency partners. Here are our top ski resorts in France for families to help you make your mind up!
One of our favourite ski resorts in France is Avoriaz. This quaint mountain resort in the Alps is a car-free zone and only allows horse-drawn sleighs, so is incredibly safe for children. Avoriaz is also home to the children’s ski school called ‘Village des infants’ learning zone where the children learn to ski through play. One of the best apres-ski activities in this area is the enormous water park which recently opened with waves, river rapids, and magic light shows. The local ski school converts into a downhill biking school off-season, making it an ideal destination even after the snow has disappeared. The nearby village of Morzine is also particularly charming.
The resort is easy to reach from Geneva Airport which has a large number of international flights particularly during the winter season (2 hours transfer). For UK travellers, the Eurostar leaves from London or Ashford International in Kent, and takes you into Paris, where you can connect with a TGV train via Bellegarde (in Switzerland) before travelling onto Cluses via a regional shuttle train. The night train also connects with the Eurostar in Paris, operating every night during the ski season and takes you to Cluses train station in around 7.5 hours – the same length of time as during the day.
Many people, however, enjoy the easy drive of approximately 9 hours from the UK via Calais which offers them more flexibility.
This resort was recently voted the Top Family Ski resort at the World Snow Awards in 2018, and it is not hard to see why given how much it has to offer!
Here’s a brand new 3-bed penthouse apartment on the road to Avoriaz from our partners at Morzine Immo or check out this fantastic 6 bedroomed chalet, perfect for 2 or 3 families, in the heart of Morzine, complete with spa room and ready to move into straight away.
